An Introduction

I've been representing people with disabilities since 1985 and bought my first computer that year (with the help of a generous family). It was an AT&T 6300 with a 10 meg HD. It might as well have been called the Model T, so much has changed in 20 years. Since then, I've bought a lot of computers from Zeos, Dell, NEC, went from a daisy wheel printer to a laserjet, moved from DOS to Windows, then from Windows 3.1 to Windows 2000 (in steps). And then came the internet.

This site takes a big step in a different direction. We've had a traditional website for about 5 years, and it's had its share of compliments. But it was so rarely updated that it went the way of other Websites of the Living Dead, made useless by outdated content. Look at your own site and see if you don't have a "last updated February 3, 1999" somewhere. Weblogs make it easy to update websites. So I've bought a new suit, and I'm hoping it fits.

If you're new to web logs--also known as "blogs," (hence the orc-like name "Disability Law Blog")-- read this article by Diego Doval which will give you a good idea of what they are and what to look for on a website that's a blog. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that someone, somewhere will come up with a better name for "blogs" or the even-more-noxious "blawgs." You're looking at a blawg, by the way--a web log pertaining to legal things.)

What is this site about? It's about Social Security disablity law and practice, though there's plenty of medical news, the odd woodworking story (I love woodworking), and a few hikes down rabbit trails regarding technology in my practice. Truly, I've wasted (maybe "invested" is a better word) vast amounts of time playing with new software and new hardware, tools that make practicing law a lot easier and a lot more fun. Some of the things I've done to implement technology in a small practice might be helpful to you, so I hope to have the time to post about that as well.

There's also information on Worker's Compensation since I also handle these cases (many folks with a Social Security Disability claim started out with a WC injury).

Thanks for reading!
